Funeral Services Set For Cathedral City Police Officer

Funeral services for Cathedral City Police Officer Jermaine Gibson, who died in a crash while involved in a high-speed pursuit, will be held on Friday, according to the Cathedral City Police Dept.

The services will take place March 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southwest Community Church, located at 77-701 Fred Waring Drive in Indian Wells.

Gibson will be buried at 2:15 pm at the Riverside National Cemetery, located at 22-495 Van Buren Boulevard, in Riverside.

The accident happened early Saturday morning during the chase, in which Gibson was chasing a car believed to have been driven by a wanted parole violator.

The chase began just north of Interstate 10 at Date Palm Drive and Dillon Road at 11:35 p.m. on Friday. It proceeded at high speeds down Date Palm and ended up on Highway 111 heading into Palm Springs.

Investigators said Gibson’s patrol car crashed into a palm tree on S. Palm Canyon south of downtown Palm Springs. The suspect’s car also hit a palm tree. Two occupants of the car were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs in critical condition.

Police are asking anyone who may have seem the chase or the crash to call them as they piece together the information.
