Car Dealerships Prepared for Japanese Production Halt
The Palm Springs Nissan dealership continues to thrive despite the devastating news from its Japanese headquarters.
“There may have been members of the [production] plant who may have been hurt or missing,” said Service Director Paul Connolly.
The main Nissan plant in Japan was not damaged. But, the major quake may slow down the production and delivery of certain car parts.
“We have a lot of parts and distribution centers — also known as PDCs — all over the country,” said Connolly. “But, there are stuff that come from Japan.
The following models are made primarily in Japan which means their parts come from there, too: Cube, GTR, Juke, Murano and the 370Z.
All other models are made in the United States.
If, for some reason, the car parts that customers need is not in stock, or temporarily stopped because of the earthquake, the dealership can still obtain the parts by purchasing them from a local auto parts store.
Prospective auto buyers also may notice a sticker price increase of between 10%-15% for those Japanese-made models.
