Prep Playoff Update: Desert Baseball / Softball Teams Advance
Baseball:
#1 Palm Desert 5, La Salle 4 (F)
The No. 1 ranked Palm Desert baseball team had to survive a furious rally from La Salle to advance the Division IV C.I.F. quarterfinals. The Aztecs led 5-0 in the fifth inning, only to watch their opponents storm back and get within one run. The Aztecs used ace pitcher Brooks Kriske in relief and held on for the win. They will now advance to host a quarterfinal game on Friday. The game will take place at either La Quinta High School or Shadow Hills High School.
Softball:
La Quinta 6, Anaheim Loara 2 (F)
The DVL champion Blackhawks pulled a comeback for a decisive “Sweet 16” softball victory on the road. LQ beat Anaheim Loara 6-2 and booked their spot in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The Blackhawks will host the game at 3:15 p.m.
#1 Aquinas 8, Indio 2 (F)
Indio fell behind early and could never recover against the Division’s top seeded team, Aquinas. The Falcons (25-1) pounded the ball in the early innings and built a 6-1 lead. The Rajahs had more than a few opportunities to get closer, but could only climb to within 6-2 on a Marissa Walls RBI single in the bottom of the 4th. Aquinas will now move on to the final 8.
