Two Officers Injured After Funeral Procession Crash

Two motorcycle officers crashed into each other today during a funeral procession in Torrance, injuring both of them.

The collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. at 227th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, said Capt. Steve Deuel of the Torrance Fire Department.

One of the officers was in critical condition and the other sustained moderate injuries, Deuel said. Torrance police said one of the motorcyclists was thrown into oncoming traffic, then hit by another vehicle.

The funeral procession was for a Manhattan Beach police officer who died of cancer.
