Locals React After Troop Withdrawal Announcement
All around the world, people watched President Obama announce his plan to withdraw troops in Afghanistan.
A small group at Downtown Josh, a local Twentynine Palms lounge, watched the President on TV.
With a cold Coors Light beer in front of him, Doug Peercy, a retired marine watched the 15-minute speech. After the speech Peercy said, “He’s made some valid points as much as I disagree with some things he’s done in the past.”
Peercy was a Marine for 25 years. “The President gave a deadline which is a problem because all the bad guys heard it and so now they’re saying cool come July.”
Thomas Worthington caught the president’s speech before choir. “I think it’s about time we bring the boys back home,” said Worthington.
Like most in the Twentynine Palms Marine town, no matter who you talk with in one way or another, you’ll find a military connection. Worthington is no different — he served in Vietnam.
“We’re spending $10 billion a month; he said tonight let’s put it back into our nation, which is what I think we should have done a long time ago,” said Worthington.
