Man Accidentally Shoots Himself At Palm Springs Party

A 19-year-old man who accidentally shot himself in the leg at a party in Palm Springs was recovering today, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Aurora Drive about 11 p.m. Thursday to investigate a report about suspected underage drinking at a house party, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Kyle Stjerne.

The officers heard a gunshot and could not immediately determine what had happened, so they detained the guests, Stjerne said.

The 19-year-old was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment of the gunshot wound, which was not life-threatening, the sergeant said.

He said police will recommend that the district attorney file charges against the man, whose name was not released.

The officers did not find evidence of underage drinking, so there were no arrests at the party, Stjerne said.
