Palm Springs Airport Construction Back On
President Barack Obama signed a bill Friday to officially end the Federal Aviation Administration’s two-week partial shutdown.
Workers are celebrating going back to work, while Congress begins a long summer recess.
Representative Mary Bono Mack spent her day off getting a firsthand look at what’s happened at the stalled Palm Springs Airport tower, saying, “We’re all really thankful that the FAA stalemate is over. Unfortunately, it caught this project up and took a toll on local jobs so I’m happy to be here today.”
However, Bono Mack was quick to emphasize that this extension is just temporary. Come September, Congress will need to regroup and figure out a permanent funding plan for the FAA. She says, “We’ve been doing temporary extensions for quite some time and of course the goal of Congress and it should be the goal of Congress is to pass long-term authorization bills. That hasn’t been the case, but it would be a very important part of the budgeting process to do it that way.”
Bono Mack says that when Congress returns in September, there will be huge fights again over spending and most likely a continuing resolution to fund the government.
