Deputies Investigate Body Found In Oasis Field As Homicide

The investigation into an East Valley homicide is underway.

A man was found dead on Sunday at about 6:30 pm. in a dirt field near Avenue 68 and Harrison Street in of Oasis.

Sheriff’s deputies from the indio station responded to the report of a body, but investigators are releasing very little information.

“It’s pretty scary,” said Eduardo Corella, an Oasis business owner.

The victim was 28 years old, according to the Sheriff’s Department, but at authorities are not releasing his identity or where he is from.

“(It) makes you think about the community,” said Corella, who for the past 10 years has co-owned AVC Farm and Auto Repair.

His shop in less than a mile from the scene of the crime.

“There isn’t that many houses,” said Corella, “not that many people. Maybe they did it at night so nobody would know.”

The Sheriff’s Department is not releasing the cause of death.

They also have not determined whether or not this crime is connected to any others in the area, though they haven’t ruled that out.

There are a number of unsolved homicides currently under investigation in the Coachella Valley.

On June 26, three bodies were found in an agricultural field in Thermal.

Authorities believe they were left there by Mexican drug dealers, but no arrests have been made, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

On May 4, Karina Sepulveda, 19, from Indio was found dead in a Coachella field — two days after her family reported her missing.

Her case is being labeled a “suspicious death.”

“These (areas) are pretty insulated (and) close to a lot of desert,” said Raul Sanchez. “It’s a good spot for it.”
