Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team Plays Desert Match

Veterans, wounded in battle, gave everything for their country fighting overseas, and on Monday, the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team geared up for its next battle at Big League Dreams in Cathedral City.

They started at 6 p.m. and more than 300 people showed up.

The Wounded Warriors team is made up of guys from all over the country.

“Every athlete dreams of getting a second chance, and we’ve been fortunate to get one,” said Sgt. Matt Kinsey, who lost a leg on June 2, 2010, after stepping on a land mine in Afghanistan.

The Warriors competed against Ossur, a global leader in orthopedics, and it provided many of the Warriors with the prosthetics allowing them to play in the game.

All of the warriors either served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

“This is the elite of the elite,” said David Van Sleet, the head coach and founder of the softball team.

The team is made up of 11 players, and after the game, they’re going to get ready for their next game in Florida, at Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex.

In the end, the Wounded Warriors were defeated 27-13
