California Pension Reform Initiative To Stay On June Ballot
The City of San Diego Employees union lost the battle to remove a pension reform initiative from the June Ballot.
KGTV reports a judge ruled Tuesday morning that the measure will stay on the ballot.
The lawsuit was brought on after the California Public Employee Relation Board ruled that a pension reform initiative amounted to an unfair labor practice.
Mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio collected enough signatures to get the Comprehensive Pension Reform Initiative put on the ballot, despite several confrontations during the signature drive.
The initiative — if passed — would give most new employees 401(k) plans instead of enrolling them in the debt-ridden pension system. The measure would also figure only base compensation over the next five years into the eventual retirement pay of workers.
