Icy Crash In Banning Injures 19 People

A total of 19 patients were transported to hospitals, one with moderate injuries and 18 with minor injuries, after a multi-vehicle collision on an icy Interstate 10 Freeway Saturday night, a Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman said.

The crash was reported at 9:07 p.m. on the eastbound 10 Freeway at 22nd Street, said fire department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

The road was covered with about a half-inch of ice and slush, Hagemann said.

At least seven vehicles were involved, according to a California Highway Patrol statement, including a Chrysler Pacifica, Ford Escort, Nissan, Kia Rio, Mazda 3, Acura and an SUV.
