Teen Shot, Killed Near 2 Whittier Schools

A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot today in the Whittier area, and two nearby schools were locked down as a precaution while police searched for two suspects.

Paramedics sent to Painter Avenue and Mulberry Drive shortly after noon transported the patient to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Deputy Lillian Peck of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

Two nearby schools were locked down as a precaution, but the shooting did not occur on either campus, the sergeant said. No arrests were reported.

The Whittier Union High School District issued a statement saying that the boy, who was shot in the head, was not a student at any of its campuses.
