Woman Left Homeless By Desert Hot Springs Fire

A woman was being helped by the American Red Cross on Thursday after her home caught fire in Desert Hot Springs.

The fire was reported to dispatchers at around 9 a.m. on Desert View Avenue, near the intersection of Verbena Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters said flames were coming from the back two bedrooms of the home when they arrived. Inside one of those rooms was a woman, who firefighters said was sleeping when the fire started.

They saved her and her pets, and she was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where she was treated for smoke inhalation.

Another woman who lives there was at work at the time, according to the fire department.

Fire investigators were trying to determine what caused the fire.
