Mountain Storms & Muggy for Monday Evening

We've seen severe Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Warnings issued this afternoon and evening from the San Diego deserts, stretching through the Riverside County mountains and into the High Desert. A few of these Areal Flood Advisories currently remain in place, before storms calm down this evening.

We did see pockets of brief, very heavy rain around Hwy 74, where 1-2" of rain had fallen east of Anza, around Mountain Center, SW of Palm Desert. Flash flooding from monsoonal storms can change very rapidly, so please avoid flooded roads.

Monsoonal moisture will keep a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the mountains through Wednesday, with the greatest coverage and heaviest rainfall expected this early evening and Tuesday, while a few storms could drift into the deserts.

Elsewhere, the Coachella Valley stays mostly dry as temperatures begin a cooling trend before dropping to near or even slightly below average by the middle of the week—the first below-normal highs we've seen in nearly a month.

Looking ahead, a few more muggy days with breezy afternoons through the mountain passes, and much more comfortable temperatures through the rest of the week.
