Mountain Storms & Muggy for Monday Evening

Flash Flood Warning in Riverside County until 5:45pm. Severe thunderstorms producing brief heavy rain. Rainfall: 1–2 inches have already fallen, with another 0.5–1.25 inches possible in an hour. RISK: Flash flooding is ongoing or expected soon. WHERE: Southeastern Palm Springs and Highway 74 between Anza, Palm Desert, and Mountain Center. If you're in these areas, avoid flooded roads and seek higher ground if flooding begins.

Monsoonal moisture will keep a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the mountains through Wednesday, with the greatest coverage and heaviest rainfall expected today and Tuesday, while a few storms could drift into the deserts.

Elsewhere, the Coachella Valley stays mostly dry as temperatures begin a cooling trend before dropping to near or even slightly below average by the middle of the week—the first below-normal highs we've seen in nearly a month.

Looking ahead, expect a deeper marine layer, breezy afternoons through the mountain passes, and much more comfortable temperatures through the rest of the week.
