San Pedro Hiker dies on Palm Springs hiking trail

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified a hiker found dead along the Museum Trail in Palm Springs as a 54-year-old San Pedro man.
The body of Mark Alexander was found Friday about 6:45 p.m., according to a department statement. Palm Springs police were first called to the Lykken trail around 6:12 p.m. Friday.

The caller, a stranger to Alexander,reported he was unresponsive and not breathing, according to Palm Springs police. Emergency medical personnel later pronounced Alexander dead at the scene. The cause of death has not been established yet, according to the coroner’s office.

The Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit are warning hikers to be cautious of the rising temperatures as summer nears. They recommend hikers be hydrated and in good condition when heading out the door. Experts also recommend carrying several liters of water, wearing bright colors and carrying a cell phone with a fully charged battery.
