Cathedral City man arrested, suspected of stealing vehicle
Four days after being released on probation from the county jail, a Cathedral City man is back behind bars again.
Cathedral City police arrested 29-year-old Ryan Nelson Saturday morning, after he allegedly stole a vehicle and led officers on a chase.
Officers were called about a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee around 10:26 Saturday morning near Commercial Road and Sunair Drive.
According to Cathedral City police, Nelson was later seen driving that vehicle near Cathedral Canyon Drive and East Palm Canyon Drive.
When Nelson realized officers had spotted him, he ran a red light and turned south bound onto East Palm Canyon Drive, according to a Cathedral City sergeant.
Nelson continued driving around, leading officers around the area. Speeds averaged between 25-to-50 miles per hour and at one point, speeds reached 70-miles-per-hour.
Officers later arrested Nelson near East Palm Canyon and Perez Road.
No one was injured in the chase, but Nelson was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for some minor scrapes on his leg. He was treated and later booked into the Riverside County Jail in Banning.
