Gene Autry Trail back open after deadly hit-and-run
Gene Autry Trail is back open to traffic between Via Escuela and Interstate 10 in Palm Springs after a woman’s body was found in the roadway early Monday morning.
Spokesman Mike Kovaleff said officers were sent to Gene Autry Trail and North Via Escuela around 1:35 a.m. after a motorist reported a hazard in the roadway.
They arrived to find the body of a woman in the road with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
“The female has not been identified at this time and she appeared to be in her late teens or early twenties,” he said.
As a result, Gene Autry Trail between Via Escuela and Interstate 10 was shut down until 11 a.m.
