Copper thief arrested

A man suspected of stealing copper from the Rancho Mirage Library on July 2nd has been arrested.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Burglary Suppression Unit was following up on a lead, when they received information from a metal recycling business in Banning, that cooper sold to them matched the description of the copper sheets stolen from the Rancho Mirage Library earlier this month.

Deputies arrested 45 year old Steven Cain, after they confirmed he was the man who reportedly sold the copper to the recycling business.

Cain was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for grand theft, felony vandalism, possession of stolen property, and commercial burglary.
