Possible salary cut for Palm Desert Council

An ad-hoc committee in Palm Desert is ready to recommend a pay cut of more than 50% for city council members.

Currently, Palm Desert City Councilmembers are paid the highest salaries in the Coachella Valley at more than $45,000 a year. The committee is recommending a salary of $22,500 a year. Medical and other benefits would be capped at $7,500 a year.

The committee made its decision after hearing public input at a meeting Thursday night. It will meet again August 1 to finalize its work.

The Palm Desert City Council will then decide whether to adopt the committee’s recommendation.
