Man arrested for child molestation and child pornography
On Wednesday, Cathedral City Police arrested fifty-three-year-old Cathedral City resident David Hadley Pio for child molestation and child pornography.
Pio volunteered with local sports over the years, a concept frightening for parents.
“We don’t know what we have around. The thing is, I thought he was a nice person,” neighbor Carlos Lupercio said.
As their kids practice soccer, parents realize it’s not always fun and games.
“You never know. A lot of people you know and still they do these things,” Cathedral City resident Claudia Tores said.
Police found a number of pornographic images and videos with juveniles on computers and media storage in Pio’s home. He was arrested and charged with multiple counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, lewd acts with multiple victims under the age of 14, and possession of child pornography.
“It’s not only disgusting, but how can somebody take advantage of innocent kids?” mom Rachel Roman said.
“I’ve seen him, I don’t know if he’s a coach of a team or something, but I’ve seen him at the soccer park in Cathedral City,” Lupercio said.
At that same park, parents cringed at the news and told us how they hope to avoid their child ever falling victim to such a crime.
“I got to know the coach, we’ve been with the coach for a couple years. I got to know his wife. I’m here with my son. I watch him every single day. I don’t leave,” Roman said.
“You have to talk to your kids a lot so when something happens, something is going on, they can talk to you. That’s the only thing we can do,” mom Claudia Tores said.
Because of all the material found in Pio’s home, detectives believe there may be more unreported incidents and unidentified victims out there.
Police urge anyone with any information, or anyone that may be a victim, to please come forward.
