Trial Date Set for Sun Tax Lawsuit

The “Sun Tax” is heading to trial — despite Riverside County Leader’s attempt to dismantle the suit.

The trial set to begin next January.
Opponents from the Independent Energy Producers Association say the tax is jeopardizing green jobs and economic development.
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the contentious $450 an acre charge on solar projects last November.
IEP and the Large-scale Solar Association filed suit against the County in February.
They say the tax is illegal because it violates California Proposition 26 and fails to conform to the California Mitigation Fee Act, which requires fees to be tied to impacts.
