LA twins, Good Samaritans narrowly avoid electrocution

Twenty-three year old twins Skyler and Beau Maxon know life is all about timing. They moved to Los Angeles two years ago: Skyler, to pursue an acting career, Beau to support his other half.

“I knew I needed to go and look after him, the city that LA often has the reputation of being. So I came out here, put my life on hold and started a new one,” Beau Maxon said.

Timing brought tragedy right to their doorstep in Los Angeles’s Valley Village neighborhood Wednesday night, when they heard the sound of screeching tires.

“We looked at each other and stared off waiting to hear that noise of a car crash and sure enough we did. I ran down stairs I didn’t even grab shoes,” Beau said.

The twins both ran to help. Beau got to the scene first and describes the haunting sight.

“All I saw was this massive wall of water. I could see that a fire hydrant was run over and water was being sprayed 40 feet in the air. The street quickly became a pond,” he said.

The driver of an SUV was trying to turn on Magnolia, but lost control and hit a fire hydrant, knocking it and a power pole over.

“There was a woman on the ground. She was laying on her back and her arms were sticking straight up in the air,” Beau said. “I started going through the water and I didn’t feel any electricity at this point.

“I put my right hand on her right forearm and my left hand on her shoulder. Thats when I felt the electricity. My eyes just closed. I could feel my body just crumble. I collapsed. Everything got so tight. My knees came up to my chest, like I was in the fetal position. My heat was not pounding, it felt like it was going to explode,” Beau said.

“It was really weird because my brother is a strong man, big guy, big heart, and he just fell so quick,” Skyler said.

That woman, along with another woman who tried to help, were electrocuted. Beau was taken to the hospital, rushed to intensive care for possible kidney failure. He is now back home alright. With the tragedy behind him, Beau talks about time.

“Tomorrow is not guaranteed. It was 8:24 when I ran downstairs, 5 minutes before then I would’ve thought I was going to make myself dinner, jump in the shower, go to bed and wake up for tomorrow and I almost didn’t,” he said.

“He came out here to support me and I think his actions that night show the kind of person he is. He’s just very supportive and he’s very compassionate of people,” Skyler said.

“Skyler is finally starting to do well for himself, and I’ve been thinking that I might go back home to Utah for a bit,” Beau said. “Then this happened and I think that was someone trying to speak to me that ‘I think you need to go home for a little while, Skyler is going to be ok. You did your job.'”

To this, to Beau taking on Hollywood with him, and to 23 years of taking on life together, Skyler points to his other half.

“I couldn’t have done it without him, he’s my better half.”
