Cathedral City convenience store robbed

Police were seeking two men who robbed a Circle K convenience store at gunpoint today, the third holdup at a Cathedral City business since early Wednesday.

Today’s robbery was reported at 3:25 a.m. at the Circle K at 37040 Cathedral Canyon Drive. An employee said two men, both wearing bandanas over their faces, came in and one of them brandished a handgun at the employee, demanding money, Cathedral City police Sgt. Carl Wolford said.

The employee gave them an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspects ran off. No one was injured, Wolford said.

One suspect was a black man 18 to 22 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a light-green bandanna over his face, a black or gray
baseball cap, a black long-sleeved, zip-up hooded sweatshirt, white T-shirt, gray jeans, white tennis shoes and blue latex gloves.

The other suspect was a Hispanic man 18 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall, 170 pounds, wearing a blue bandanna over his face, a blue long-sleeved, zip-up
hooded sweatshirt, a white T-shirt and black tennis shoes.

At 11:35 p.m. Wednesday, a woman entered the Outpost Market at 68171 Ramon Rd. and began speaking to an employee in what Wolford said was an attempt to distract him. A man entered the store soon after and pulled a handgun, pointed it at the employee and demanded cash. The woman got into a van and left, and the man ran off, dropping all the stolen cash, which was recovered, Wolford said.

At 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, a man held up an adult book store, Hidden Joy, at 68424 Commercial Rd. and left with cash, Wolford said.

“At this point, it doesn’t look like any of them are connected,” said police spokesman Lt. Charles Robinson.

Anyone with information about any of the suspects or robberies was asked to call Cathedral City police at (760) 770-0300 or (760) 770-0302.
