Coroner I.D.’s woman killed in La Quinta accident

Three people were injured, one killed, Sunday night when a motorist crossed into the eastbound lanes of Avenue 50 in La Quinta causing a collision.

Police were called to the area of Avenue 50 and Park at approximately 10:40 p.m.

Two vehicles collided in the east bound lanes of Avenue 50.

Investigators say 28 year old Leyann Mercer, of La Quinta, was driving a Kia Spectra westbound along Avenue 50.

Mercer veered across the center median and into the path of a Nissan Altima eastbound on Avenue 50.

The driver in the Nissan broadsided the Kia.

Emergency medical personnel treated four people in the vehicles, Mercer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three survivors, a woman and two children, were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash’s cause remains under investigation.

Investigators said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
