86 Expressway Reopened after Fatal Accident
A two year-old is dead after a major traffic accident on the 86 Expressway, this afternoon.
Just before 12:45, the driver of a big rig, headed southbound, slammed into a Honda Accord, killing a two-year old boy and injuring two of his family members. Witnesses say the truck was going approximately 65 to 70 miles an hour, as it approached stopped traffic, at Avenue 50.
The Accord was pinned underneath the semi. A Chevy pick-up and Kia Sol were also involved in the collision.
The investigation is underway into what caused the deadly crash, at the beginning of a busy holiday weekend.
Sgt. Daniel Hesser of the California Highway Patrol says, “Anytime you’re driving, especially on a holiday weekend, you’re hurried and not sure of your destination and we get distracted. Pay attention to your driving, make sure you’re well rested and take your time. Just make sure you get there.”
Traffic was shut down completely for close to half an hour.
Tonight, all lanes are re-opened to traffic.
