Palm Springs International Film Festival opens Thursday
With the 12-day Palm Springs International Film Festival opening Thursday,the box office at the Camelot Theatres was doing good businesson Wednesday. In fact, film festival officials anticipate more than a 130,000 film goers this year.
During the festival’s run, it will feature 180 films from 68 countries. “I love seeing the films you wouldn’t see in the mainstream,” said Jason Freed, who purchased tickets to see a dozen screenings. “They’re really interesting, you find out about different cultures. We like the ones subtitled because it really brings the flavor of the country in. Just really nice.”
From a business stand point, the festival generates a lot of revenue for the local economy. For example, at Sherman’s Deli and Bakery, owner Sam Harris said the festival is his busiest time of the year. “We’ll double our business over the next 10 days. It’s the biggest two weeks of the year, open to close.”
