Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to speak in Indian Wells

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will speak to a sellout crowd in Indian Wells Thursday evening.

The talk is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa.
The 60-year-old son of former President George H.W. Bush and younger brother of former President George W. Bush served two terms as Florida governor from 1999 to 2007 and appears to be mulling over a 2016 White House bid. The challenges he would face include being the possibility of being judged too moderate by Republican voters in the primaries, and, if he is nominated, the risk of voter ennui with the Bush name.
He drew headlines for saying in his new book, “Immigration Wars,” that he opposes granting illegal immigrants U.S. citizenship. During the 2012 presidential election, he said illegal immigrants should be given a shot at citizenship and legal residency.
Bush canceled appearances on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., because of a major snowstorm, but planned to travel from Florida to the Coachella Valley for today’s appearance, according to Desert Town Hall’s interim executive director, Becky Kurtz.
