Burned body found near Anza brush fire
Firefighters called to a brush fire found charred human remains inside a scorched car in Mountain Center, but no arrests have been made according to police.
Firefighters were dispatched at 3:55 p.m. Friday to a brush fire along Highway 74 on the Santa Rosa Indian Reservation, south of Idyllwild and east of Hemet, where the car and remains were found.
The find was near a near a seven-acre brushfire near Anza that was contained Saturday morning and brought under control today, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said. There was no link between the
fires, she said.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Wallace Clear said investigators were unable to identify whoever was inside what appeared to be a severely burned 1990s Ford Mustang.
An investigation was ongoing in what the Sheriff’s authorities believed was a suspicious death, Clear said.
Sheriff’s deputies asked anyone with information about the remains or
car to call investigators at the Sheriff’s Hemet Station at (951) 791-3400 or
dispatchers at (951) 776-1099.
