Authorities ID contents of suspicious packages that shut down PS Art Museum

The suspicious packages that shut down the Palm Springs Art Museum Thursday contained a Swiss Army Knife, eraser and plant seeds, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff.

The packages were not addressed to anybody and one of them vibrated when the reporting party initially held it. However, nothing was found in either package that could have caused a vibration.

One package was located inside the museum and one was located outside the museum. The museum was evacuated as a precautionary measure and Museum Drive was closed between Tahquitz Canyon Way and the north Palm Springs Art Museum parking lot. Tahquitz Canyon Way was also closed in the area around the museum.

The Hazardous Device Team responded to the location, investigated the packages, and determined that they did not present any type of danger.

The packages did not contain any type of hazardous device and whoever left the packages did not appear to have any criminal intent. Themuseumreopened at about 4:15 PM.
