Deadly accident near Coachella

Indio police says a Coachella security worker directing traffic was killed in a car accident Saturday morning.

Calfire reports the person was struck just before 8 Saturday morning near Madison and Ave 52.

Calfire says a car went through the intersection for some unknown reason, striking the worker.

Ben Guitron, spokesperson for Indio police says, the Goldenvoice security worker was taken to hospital in cardiac arrest. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The worker was part of the motorcycle security detail for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Guitron tells us he was directing traffic at the intersection where the accident occurred, it is not known if he was standing in the intersection or was on his motorcycle when he was struck.

Calfire says a second person was also taken to the hospital, with minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Ave. 52 between Monroe and Jackson is open to residents only while authorities investigate.

Madison between Ave. 52 and 54 is also only open to residents.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department hopes to have the road open to everyone by 5pm Saturday.
