Palm Springs resident uses handgun to stop burglary suspect

A Palm Springs resident grabbed a gun and held a home invasion robbery suspect until police could arrive Sunday.

Police were called to a burglary in progress reported on the 600 block of North Belardo Road at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday.

A resident there said the suspect, Ronald Bryant, 37, of Long Beach climbed onto the home’s roof then jumped down into the patio area.

The resident said Bryant then broke a bedroom window and entered the home.

Police said the resident grabbed a handgun and chased the suspect into the street.

Officers arrived to find the resident holding Bryant at gunpoint in the street.

Police said Bryant was on parole for drug violations, and was taken to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning where he was being held for first-degree burglary and violating his parole, both felonies.

Bryant was in custody with no bail, and expected in court Wednesday.
