San Francisco-based Kimpton to open new hotel in Palm Springs

San Francisco-based hotel and restaurant companyKimpton will manage a four-star hotel to be built on North Palm Canyon Drive indowntown Palm Springs, a city spokeswoman said today.

The hotel, which is expected to open in 2015, will have 190 rooms, arooftop bar and pool, restaurant and more than 24,000 square feet of event andmeeting space, city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell said.

Blaisdell said Kimpton was chosen for the management contract by hoteldeveloper and property owner Wessman Development. Kimpton operates 58 hotelsand 67 restaurants, bars and lounges in 24 cities around the country, includingLos Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego.

“It’s exciting for us to be part of the city’s downtown revitalizationas the first new construction property in the area since the late 1980s,” saidKimpton CEO Mike Depatie. “We’re confident that we’ll bring something uniqueto the city as it continues to evolve as a tourist and group traveldestination.”

Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet said city officials “are thrilled thatKimpton Hotels has partnered with Wessman Development to bring a four-starhotel and rooftop bar to the heart of downtown.”
