Two arrested in Indio medical clinic robbery
A man and a 17-year-old boy suspected in the armed robberyof a medical clinic in Indio are in custody Tuesday, police said.
The robbery at Indio Medical Clinic, 82-360 Highway 111 was reported at4:05 p.m. Tuesday, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.
The suspects — one armed with a handgun, the other with a knife — hadtheir faces covered when they entered the clinic, Guitron said.
The gunman, later identified as Alejandro Acevedo, 39, of Indioallegedly took a bag filled with medical items from the clinic’s front office,he said.
The knife-wielding suspect, identified as a 17-year-old boy, also fromIndio, is suspected of robbing a cellular phone and money from two customers inthe clinic lobby, Guitron said.
Both suspects fled in the direction of the Vintage Palms Apartments at82-435 Requa Street, he said.
Officers set up a perimeter and arrested Acevedo at the apartments,Guitron said. Based on information he provided they later found and arrestedthe 17-year-old at the same apartment complex, he said.
Police recovered the stolen property and a handgun, Guitron said.
Both suspects were booked on suspicion of armed robbery, conspiracy tocommit a crime, possession of stolen property and weapons violations, Guitronsaid.
Acevedo was booked into the Riverside County sheriff’s jail facility inIndio, he said. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and was due in courtin Indio on Thursday, according to sheriff’s online jail records.
The youth was booked into the Riverside County Juvenile Hall in Indio,he said.
