Free pre-screening of Soderbergh’s ‘Behind the Candelabra’ in PS this weekend

In honor of the City of Palm Springs’ 75th anniversary, HBO and film producerJerry Weintraub will premiere two free sneak peek screenings of their new film “Behind the Candelabra” on Saturday,May 25 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The screenings will be held at 4 p.m. and at 7 p.m. in the Primrose Ballroom,located at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros. Popcorn, candy and beverages will beon hand.

The Steven Soderbergh directed film about the life of Liberace, one of the city’smost flamboyant part-time residents, was partially filmed in Palm Springs lastAugust and stars Academy Award-winning actor Michael Douglas and MattDamon. The film was recently screened at the Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews.

“The City of Palm Springs would like to thank legendary producer and localresident Jerry Weintraub, HBO Films and P.S. Resorts for partnering to screenthis new film for our residents and visitors in honor of our 75th anniversary,”said Mayor Steve Pougnet.

“Palm Springs was the destination where Liberacecame to relax, rejuvenate and get away from his hectic life in Las Vegas. Hebecame a much loved celebrity in our town and this film has received fantasticword of mouth. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this sneak peek.”

Weintraub, the producer of blockbuster films including Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’sTwelve, Ocean’s Thirteen and Nashville, has a long history in Palm Springs andwas recently the Celebrity Grand Marshal for the 21st annual Palm Springs Festivalof Lights Parade.
