Police arrest man suspected of killing Indio teen 2 years ago
A Mexican citizen suspected of killing a 19-year-oldIndio woman two years ago and leaving her body in a Coachella corn field wasbehind bars today.
Raymundo Garcia Vasquez, 27, was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Thursday atthe Calexico border crossing in connection with the death of Karina Sepulveda,whose body was found in a field near Fillmore Street and 50th Avenue on May 4,2011, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators later identified Vasquez as the “sole suspect” in thekilling and obtained an arrest warrant in January, according to the sheriff’sdepartment. He was charged with murder in February, according to court records.
Vasquez was booked at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta and wasbeing held in lieu of $1 million bail pending arraignment on Tuesday at theLarson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
The sheriff’s department didn’t reveal how Sepulveda died or give apossible motive.
