$800,000 in meth seized near Salton Sea

Border Patrol agents arrested a man near the Salton Sea Monday morning after he tried to pass through a checkpoint with 25 pounds of meth.

At around 5 a.m., the 54-year-old man was moving through the checkpoint located between Westmorland and Salton City when a canine team alerted agents to search his vehicle, a 1995 Isuzu Trooper.

When agents searched the car, they found six packages of meth hidden inside the vehicle.

The meth had a combined weight of about 25 pounds and an estimated street value of $800,000. The man, a United States Citizen, was arrested as the sole suspect in the case.

The man, vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the DEA for further investigation.
