$1.26 million in meth seized near Salton Sea

Border Patrol arrested a man near the Salton Sea Wednesday after discovering over 39 pounds of meth hidden in his truck.

The 41-year-old man was passing through the Highway 86 checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City at around 5 a.m. when a canine team alerted agents to search his vehicle.

During the inspection, agents discovered 11 packages of methamphetamines hidden inside two compartments that had been built into the pick-up’s bed.

The methamphetamines had a combined weight of 39.4 pounds with an estimated street value of $1,260,860.

The suspected smuggler, a United States citizen, was taken into custody and turned over to the DEA for further investigation.
