Reverend Robert Schuller hospitalized after fall

The Rev. Robert Schuller, founding pastor of Crystal Cathedral Ministries, has been hospitalized after a fall at his home in Orange, it was reported Thursday.

Schuller, 86, was taken to a hospital early Saturday morning after falling in the middle of the night, the Orange County Register reported.

Carol Schuller Milner said Wednesday that tests are being conducted by doctors to seek the cause of her father’s high lactic acid count, and initial concerns of heart failure were quickly ruled out, the newspaper reported.

“He’s looking great and getting out of bed, and we expect him home soon,” Milner said in a text message.

Schuller’s wife of 63 years, Arvella, is recovering from a stroke she suffered in May.

Schuller started the Garden Grove Community Church in 1955, renting the Orange Drive-In Theatre and conducting services from a snack bar roof. As the congregation grew, the Protestant ministry began broadcasting its services through a syndicated TV program broadcast worldwide.

The Crystal Cathedral is now a Roman Catholic church.
