Business damaged in Palm Springs after power pole catches fire

Fire damaged a business in Palm Springs this morning after a power pole caught fire, causing high voltage lines and transformers to go down in the area, spreading flames to a nearby building.

The fire started at around 12:30 a.m on the 600 block of Oleander in
Palm Springs. When firefighters arrived they found a power pole fully engulfed in flames, with downed power lines and transformers.

The fire soon spread to the nearbyBlair Heating & Airmore business. Crews initially had to fight the fire from a distance due to the hanging power lines. Southern California Edison was called in, and once they cut power to the area, firefighters were able to move in closer to the blaze.

A total of 13 firefighters responded and were on scene for about three hours.

One corner of the business was damaged, but otherwise is said to be in goodcondition Authorities estimate the initial damage done to the building at $30,000.

No injuries were reported. The initial cause of the fire in still under investigation.
