Several cars stuck in La Quinta flash flooding

We’ve heard several reports of flash flooding in La Quinta. Authorities are closing intersections because of several feet of water. We’ve also heard several reports of cars stuck in intersections.

As of 4:00pm the worst of it, seems to be on Washington in La Quinta. But as the storm moves, we expect the flooding to do so as well.

Authorities advise people to stay off the roads until this storm passes. It is very hard to see how deep these intersections are until it is too late.

Also CHP officers report thunderstorms have caused rockslides at about six locations on Route 74 in the switchbacks on the “Palms to Pines Highway” above Palm Desert. Heavy stormwater is running across Route 74 in several spots. Route 78 and county road S-2 are blocked east of Julian in San Diego County.

AlsoShortly after 3 p.m. water got inside the Century Theaters at the River. The fire department arrived on scene. Everyone inside was evacuated and the theater closed for the day.
