Suspected drunk driver causes fiery crash in Palm Desert

A 34-year-old Cathedral City man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly driving drunk and causing a fiery Palm Desert crash that injured his passenger.

Michael John Moore was arrested at the scene of the crash, which was reported around 1:15 a.m. at Portola Avenue and Gerald Ford Drive.

The car was burning when deputies arrived, and Moore’s passenger was transported to a hospital to be treated for burns, sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Smith said.

It was unclear how badly the passenger was hurt.

Moore was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the county jail in Indio.

He was released after posting a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.
