Consumers have fewer days to Christmas shop this year
As soon as Christmas trees start moving pumpkins out of stores, you see these enticing signs as well – 20, 50, 70% off.
Consumerreports.org says you’ll get better bargains if you wait a few more weeks to shop – closer to Black Friday. Consumers we talked to aren’t buying that, though.
“I wouldn’t hold off and wait. If I wanted it and went back for it it probably wouldn’t be there,” Bonnie Sathe said.
We’re told to wait for bigger price cuts, yet we’re reminded we have six fewer days to shop. Thanksgiving falls on November 28 – meaning shoppers have only 25 days between Black Friday and Christmas. Last year, there were 31 days.
It’s the shortest stretch between holidays in a decade. With fewer shopping days, retail experts say stores will be more crowded than ever.
“Doesn’t make a difference to me. I’m out on the day after Thanksgiving no matter what,” Ronda Wenger said.
Shoppers hoping to avoid crowds should try to shop during the week when others are at work. One of the least crowded times to go shopping is the week after Black Friday, when others are shopped out.
