Rain forecast brings mountain run-off concerns for Coachella Valley
There’s some concern about mountain run-off in the White Water River Wash if the Coachella Valley receives significant rain this week, following the fires in the San Jacinto Mountains this past summer.
The last time the Coachella Valley experienced significant rain in August and September, the storms left behind water at the Palm Springs View Estates Mobile Home Park.
Calle Arriba, which cuts through the wash, is still closed due to a considerable amount of water in the road.
More than a forecast calling for rain, mobile home park residents are still worried about the standing water left from the last storm.
“My concern is the standing water because of West Nile virus and the mosquitoes, that’s the main thing that concerns me,” said Palm Springs View Estates resident Gail Striker.
“The longer the water sits there, it’s got to be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, but I don’t know, I am not a biologist or whatever,” said Howard Tithecott, who, like Striker, lives right off of Calle Arriba.
Cooler weather is now helping with the mosquito issue. The Coachella Valley Mosquito Control District told News Channel 3, in three tests taken since the summer storms, there were no signs of mosquitoes breeding in the water left behind at the mobile home park.
