Wounded warrior receives mortgage-free valley home

Former U.S. Army Infantryman Rob Flores can breathe a sigh of relief tonight. The Purple Heart recipient is now a proud homeowner in the country he fought to protect.

“It’s a big burden off the shoulders, that way there’s one less payment I have to worry about,” Flores said.

We were there as Rob and his family got their first tour. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath Indio residence left them stunned.

“My wife is super excited, you know already driving up and she’s already in tears about the house. It’s overwhelming to see how much room this house has,” Flores said.

His five-year-old son Jovan couldn’t wait to pick out his room, while his wife, Kim, left speechless at the sight of her new closet.

“Obviously it makes me more excited to see they’re happy,” Flores said.

For Flores, the beautiful hard floors mean an easy way to get from one spacious room to the next.

“One of the things I had at the other house was carpet and it was a lot harder to move around on the carpet,” Flores said.

Last year Wells Fargo donated 1,200 homes to military heros like Flores.

“We’ve committed in 2012 to pledge $35 million over a three-year period to help our veterans,” said Jess Tirado, who works in Community Relations for Wells Fargo.

But, if you ask Flores, knowing his family has a safe roof over its head will always remain priceless.
