Arnold Palmer honored at Indian Ridge Country Club

Golf Legend Arnold Palmer received a warm welcome at Indian Ridge Country Club in Palm Desert Saturday morning.

The club held a special ceremony honoring “The King,” as he’s often referred to, with a stone monument and plaque. Palmer and his design company created two Palmer Signature Golf Courses at Indian Ridge.

“It’s been 20 years since we built it and they’ve done a wonderful job. They have a great membership and everything here just looks outstanding,” Palmer said.

Palmer has put his stamp on more than 200 golf courses around the world, so we asked what the secret is behind designing these flawless fairways.

“I think the secret is to enjoy and love what you’re doing. Playing golf and building golf courses has been my life,” he said.

Palmer also shared the story behind the Arnold Palmer drink, which he said he created right here in the desert.

“I went into the restaurant and I asked for iced tea and lemonade, and when I was in there a lady in the restaurant asked for a Palmer,” he said.

Palmer even had a sense of humor about President Obama, who’s also here this weekend playing golf at Sunnylands.

“He proposes to play golf about the way I propose to be president,” he said.
