Strong winds expected across Riverside County

A strong onshore flow will bring gusty west winds to Riverside County today, meteorologists said.

The winds will be strongest during the day in the northern Coachella Valley in the Banning and San Gorgonio passes, and strongest later this evening in the Riverside metropolitan area, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a wind advisory for the Coachella Valley and local mountains from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and a wind advisory for the Inland Empire from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday.

Sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 45 mph are expected.

“The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high-profile vehicles,” the NWS advisory said. “Watch for broken tree limbs and other debris.”
