Indio bank robbed, police search for suspect

The Indio Police Department is looking for a man who robbed a U.S. bank near Highway 111 and Monroe Street just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The bank is located at 82118 Highway 111 in the Food for Less Shopping Center.

According to Spokesman Ben Guitron, the suspect is described as a Hispanic man around 45 to 50 years old.

Witnesses said he was about 5’2″ to 5’7″, 125-175 lbs., short brown hair with a brown beard. He was wearing a light-gray LA Angels baseball cap. He was also wearing a burgundy red and white gray-striped long sleeve western-style shirt, blue jeans and black shoes with white soles.

The man didn’t have a weapon but he delivered a note demanding money to one of the bank tellers.

He escaped on foot and was last seen running southbound on Monroe Street.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the man. They ask for anyone with information to call them at (760) 391-4057.
