Digital Content Director for ABC 17 News

ABC 17 News in Columbia, Missouri, is looking for someone who wants to help grow the station’s news product while growing his or her own career. The company is searching for a Digital Content Director. The right candidate will be excited to join an energetic team of journalists who remain on the cutting edge of this constantly changing field.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Digital Content Director duties will include but are not limited to generating and managing editorial content on abc17news.com, the ABC 17 Facebook page, the ABC 17 Twitter account and other mobile and online properties. This position has additional responsibilities in working with management on the implementation of a strategic plan for site and social media products as well as projects involving other departments.

SKILLS: The right candidate will have a passion for breaking news and a good understanding of the news editorial process. The successful candidate will be organized, have strong writing skills, keep up with social media trends and have basic knowledge of computer programming and website back end work. The desired candidate is detail-oriented and deadline-focused, using multi-tasking abilities to produce newscasts, report and shoot video, in support of today’s television newsroom operations.

HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position scheduled Monday through Friday 11:00am – 8:00pm with flexibility required as needed in support of business operations.

EDUCATION: A college degree in journalism, communication or a related field is preferred. Previous newsroom experience is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The position will require operation of a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use. Candidate must pass a drug test, background check, and MVR check.
