One person seriously injured in Hwy. 62 crash

One person was ejected after two cars crashed on Highway 62 Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. just east of Indian Canyon Drive, according to authorities.

CHP said 20 year old Juan Ibarra lost control of his Silverado while driving westbound and the rear of his pickup truck hit the mountainside, causing him to collide with a Honda Civic driven by Ashley Billington, 21.

After the collision, a male passenger in the back seat of the pick up truck was ejected and was seriously injured, according to CHP.

There were three people in the Silverado and two people in the Honda. CHP said all of them were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. All passengers, with the exception of the man who was ejected, were only slightly injured in the crash.

Westbound traffic on Highway 62 was completely closed to traffic for 30 minutes. Drivers traveling in both directions dealt with delays up to and hour and a half.

Alcohol and drugs don’t appear to be factors but police said both drivers were driving recklessly.

There’s no word on the extent of the injuries of the man who was ejected in the crash.
