Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash

A 54 year old man from Desert Hot Springs was thrown from his motorcycle after losing control on Thousand Palms Canyon Road Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened south of Dillon Road in the southbound lanes.

Deputies with CHP said the man was driving too fast as he traveled around a curve, causing him to overturn his motorcycle as he drove off the road.

He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

CHP said the rider did have a helmet but it wasn’t clear if he was wearing it at the time of the crash; it could have fallen off if he wasn’t wearing it properly.

Officers don’t think alcohol was a factor in the crash.

CHP reminds motorcyclists to always wear safety equipment and be aware of suggested speed limits around turns.
